Reid, Gregor

About Me


Dr. Gregor Reid is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus at The University of Western Ontario and scientist at the Lawson Health Research Institute. Regarded as Canada’s pioneer of probiotics, he developed a natural product used by millions of women worldwide to enhance urogenital health, and brought the first clinically tested probiotic yoghurt to Africa. His international reputation is illustrated by the International Dairy Federation’s Metchnikoff Prize for Nutrition and Health, an Honorary Doctorate of Biology from Orebro University in Sweden, the AUCC Scotiabank Prize for the Western Heads East’s HIV/AIDS community project in Tanzania, and selection by the United Nations and World Health Organization to Chair panels on probiotics. He has a Distinguished Alumni award from Massey University in New Zealand and recently received the Dr Rogers Prize for his work in Complementary and Alternative Medicine. He has published 594 papers and given over 600 talks in 54 countries. He ranks #1 for Research at Western and #3 in Canadian Microbiology based on an H index of 126 and over 52,600 citations (www.research.com).
