Blue Ridge Regional Hospital (BRRH), formerly Spruce Pine Community Hospital, a 501 (c) (3), 46-bed, Joint Commission accredited hospital, has served the people of Mitchell, Yancey and surrounding counties since 1955. The hospital has been nationally recognized by Thompson as a Top 100 Performance Improvement Leader Hospital and by Cleverley and Associates as a 5-Star Community Value Hospital. It recently completed construction of a new clinical wing.

The hospital also owns three rural health centers (Blue Ridge Medical Center—Spruce Pine, Mayland and Yancey Campuses), Blue Ridge Medical Center—General Surgery, Blue Ridge Orthopedics, Blue Ridge Urology, Blue Ridge Fitness and Rehabilitation Center and Toe River Children’s Dental Clinic. The hospital serves as a host site for 16 visiting medical specialists (cardiology, gastroenterology, dermatology, etc.).
