Dr. Asad M. Madni was President, COO& CTO of BEI Technologies from 1992-2006. He led the development & commercialization of intelligent sensors, systems & instrumentation including, the control system for Hubble Space Telescope’s Star Selector which provided the Hubble with unprecedented pointing accuracy & stability, resulting in truly remarkable images that have enhanced our understanding of the universe; and the revolutionary MEMS GyroChip® technology which is used worldwide for Electronic Stability Control & Rollover Protection in passenger vehicles, thereby saving millions of lives every year. Prior to BEI he was with Systron Donner Corporation for 18 years, eventually as Chairman, President & CEO. He made seminal and pioneering contributions in the development of RF/Microwave Systems which significantly enhanced the capabilities of the US Tri-Services & allies. He is currently, Distinguished Adjunct Professor/Distinguished Scientist at UCLA ECE Department, Faculty Fellow at UCLA Institute of Transportation Studies & Connected Autonomous Electrical Vehicle Consortium. He received an A.A.S. from RCA Institutes, B.S. & M.S. from UCLA, Ph.D. from CCU and S.E. from MIT Sloan School of Management. He has over 200 refereed publications, 69 issued/pending patents, and is recipient of numerous honors including, RAE Prince Philip Medal, IEEE Medal of Honor, IEEE Frederik Philips Award, IEEE Millennium Medal, IEEE SC Sensor Systems/Networks Advanced Technical Achievement Award, IEEE AESS Industrial Innovation Award, IEEE AESS Pioneer Award, IEEE IMS Career Excellence Award, IEEE HKN Eminent Member & Karapetoff Awards, ASME Soichiro Honda Medal, Tufts School of Engineering Dean’s Medal, UCSD Gordon Medal, Ellis Island Medal of Honor, IET J.J. He is a fellow/eminent member of 24 scientific & technical academies/societies including, National Academy of Engineering, National Academy of Inventors, Royal Academy of Engineering, Canadian Academy of Engineering, European Academy of Sciences & Arts, New York Academy of Sciences, Washington Academy of Sciences, American Association for the Advancement of Science, IEEE, IET, AAIA, IAE, American Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics, Society of Automotive Engineers, American Institute of Medical & Biological Engineering and Royal Aeronautical Society. He has been awarded 6 honorary doctorate degrees & 6 honorary professorships. In 2019, IEEE HKN named its top award “The Asad M Madni Outstanding Technical Achievement and Excellence Award” to recognize and honor his nearly 50 years of technical and philanthropic accomplishments, and visionary leadership.
