Dr. Nicholas A. Peppas is Cockrell Family Regents Chair in Engineering and Professor of Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Medicine and Molecular Pharmaceutics at the University of Texas at Austin. Peppas is internationally known for his work on the preparation, characterization and evaluation of biopolymers and hydrogels, used as biomaterials in artificial organs, and in devices for delivery of drugs, peptides and proteins, He has also made significant advances to biomedical transport phenomena, bioadhesion and in rational design of recognitive, responsive and intelligent biomedical devices. He has had numerous interactions with Canadian universities including the University of Toronto. He is a member of the US National Academie sof Engineering, Medicine, Arts and Sciences, the Spanish Royal Academy, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the National Academy of France, the Academy of Athens and the Texas Academy.
