Professor Ruth Martin has contributed fundamental knowledge on the neural control of swallowing and related oral behaviours in animal and human models. She has applied this knowledge to inform the design
and development of rehabilitation technologies aimed at enhancing oral sensorimotor function in clinical populations. In so doing, Professor Martin has created a unique synergy of oral neuroscience and rehabilitation science. This synergy has far-reaching potential in terms of enhancing oral health, and oral health-care, in Canada and internationally. Professor Martin's current work is focused on optimizing the impact of her research through academic and health-sector leadership.
