Dr. Lorelei Lingard is a leader in health professions education research in Canada. Her research focuses on the study of language within the walls of clinics, hospitals, and medical schools—how communication is learned by trainees and how it influences collaborative care delivery by healthcare teams. She is a professor at Western University and Director of the Centre for Educational Research & Innovation. She has developed initiatives to improve patient safety by improving team communication. By bringing scholars of language into a field where words are used so personally and with such high stakes, she is impacting health professional training.
