Shaf Keshavjee is Surgeon-in-Chief at
University Health Network. He is Director of the Toronto Lung Transplant
Program & Professor of Thoracic Surgery. He built "Doctors of Thoracic
Surgery"- a leading team of thoracic surgeons providing leading edge
patient care, research in cancer, & transplantation. Dr. Keshavjee
developed a technique for lung preservation that became the world standard. He
also developed ex vivo lung perfusion -a technique to keep the lung alive
outside the body -to treat and repair lungs with gene stem cell therapy. This
technique is being extended to treat other organs and has the potential to save
lives.
