Dr. Evans is a virologist with basic and applied interests in Orthopoxviruses as well as being a accomplished research administrator. His building and recruiting efforts have made Edmonton a centre of excellence in virology due to investments in virus research from the CFI, the Province of Alberta, and the Li Ka Shing Foundation. He co-founded Alberta-based Prophysis Inc., and his patented virus technologies are license and commercialized worldwide. Dr. Evans sits on the WHO smallpox committee, serves frequently as  reviewer, and consults for public and private agencies. He is currently Vice-Dean (Research) for the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.
