Raymond Cyr has distinguished himself, particularly, as a leader in the business of engineering. He has also had a significant influence on the development of telecommunications in Canada. He has served as chairman, president and CEO of Bell Canada and BCE, chairman of Telesat Canada, TransCanada Pipelines, Montréal Trust, Geomat International Inc., and Polyvalor Inc., and was vice-chairman of Advanced Technologies Inc. He has been a strong advocate of industrial and other R&D and played a key role in the development of Bell Northern Research. He has been a member of many boards, councils and committees in the private and public sectors and in universities. He currently serves as President of the Council of Polyvalor Inc..
