About Me
Dr. Samarasekera has distinguished herself through her outstanding contributions to the fundamental design and operation of materials production processes notably continuous casting of steel, hot rolling of steel and aluminum, and optoelectonic crystal growth. Her work on steel casting has transformed the industry worldwide. She has previously worked as vice-president of research at UBC and vice chancellor and president at the University of Alberta. She received the Order of Canada in 2002.
