Prof. Ian Blake of the University of British Columbia has made significant contributions to the theory and implementation of elliptic curve cryptography and its commercialization, both within a large corporation and a small startup company.  He has also contributed to theory and practice of error control codes in digital communication systems over a thirty-year period.  He has a long record of service and leadership in an academic environment, having served as Chairman of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department and been Director of two large institutes devoted to facilitating the interaction between University and Industry.
