Poitout, Vincent

About Me

Dr. Poitout is the Canada Research Chair in
Diabetes and Pancreatic Beta-Cell Function and has made major contributions to
the understanding of the mechanisms underlying type 2 diabetes. His research has
shown that excessive levels of sugar and fat impair the ability of the pancreas
to make insulin, the hormone that lowers blood sugar levels. He has also
contributed to the understanding of the mechanism of action of the lipid
receptor GPR40, a novel drug target for type 2 diabetes. Dr. Poitout has
published over 80 articles and has received numerous awards. He is heavily
involved in the scientific community at the local, national, and international
levels.
