About Me

Phil Marsden has made pioneering contributions toward understanding the role of the endothelial cell gene expression program, especially in renal and heart disease. His group was among the first to characterize the enzyme that produces nitric oxide within endothelial cells, its function in vascular disease, and the cellular NO response to changes in exogenous stimuli. His lab uses endothelial cells, cultured outside of the body, to study how the environment influences phenotype. Marsden is an international leader in nephrology, serving on the Editorial Board for the New
England Journal and Co
-Chairing the selection committee for the Gairdner Award.
