Deeley, Roger

About Me

The ground-breaking work of Dr. Roger Deeley, recognized as one of the top cancer researchers in Canada, helps to explain how cancers resist chemotherapy and suggests ways of overcoming that obstacle. The discovery and cloning of the Multidrug Resistance Protein MRP1 opened the door to what proved to be a family of proteins that can transport many compounds, including therapeutic drugs, out of both normal and malignant cells. His innovative findings, which have garnered major awards, patents and close to 16,000 citations, also provide insight into genetic disorders and barriers to drug therapies in additional diseases, including HIV/AIDS and epilepsy.
