Dr. De Koninck is world-renowned for his ground-breaking work on the neurochemistry of pain transmission and other neurological and psychiatric diseases. He has made seminal contributions to identifying the neural substrates of chronic pain, leading to development of a novel class of analgesics as well as therapeutics for related nervous system diseases. He has made significant contributions to understanding the neural substrates of senile dementia as well as unraveling fundamental principles of how our nervous system processes information. He is furthermore heavily involved in the development of innovative approaches for biosensing by exploiting recent technological advances in photonics and nanotechnologies.
