Rhian Touyz has made seminal contributions to our understanding of molecular mechanisms underlying hypertension, a major cause of morbidity. She delineated how free radicals influence vessels and identified novel cellular transporters in hypertension. She is Past President of the Canadian Hypertension Society. She is Chair of the High Blood Pressure Research Council, AHA, Deputy-Editor of Hypertension and Editor-in-Chief of Clinical Science. She was the Canada Research Chair in Hypertension until 2012 when she became Director, Institute of Cardiovascular & Medical Sciences, University of Glasgow. She maintains her laboratory at the OHRI and is Adjunct Professor at the University of Ottawa.
