About Me


Eliot Phillipson served as President and CEO of the Canada Foundation for Innovation from 2004-10. His previous appointments included those of Physician-in-Chief at Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto, and Sir John and Lady Eaton Professor and Chair of the Department of Medicine, University of Toronto. He has also served as Co-Chair of the Medical Review Panel of the Gairdner Foundation; President of the Canadian Institute of Academic Medicine; and Chair of the Expert Panel on the State of Science and Technology in Canada 2012, Council of Canadian Academies. Dr. Phillipson received his MD with Distinction from the University of Alberta, and following postgraduate training in Internal Medicine, undertook research training in respiratory regulation at the University of California San Francisco. He is an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation and the Association of American Physicians, holds an Honorary Doctor of Science from the University of Alberta, and is an Officer of the Order of Canada.
