Shoichet, Molly

About Me

Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry, Department of Chemistry, Institute of Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering, University of Toronto

Molly Shoichet is world-renowned for her regenerative medicine research in the central nervous system. With a passion for translational research, Shoichet has designed innovative bioengineered strategies to promote tissue repair after traumatic spinal cord injury, stroke and blindness. Through multidisciplinary collaborations, Shoichet has advanced local delivery to the brain to stimulate the resident stem cells therein, thereby achieving functional repair stroke models. She has demonstrated enhanced cell survival and integration in the retina, two key issues required to overcome blindness. Dr. Shoichet’s passion for the translation of research has led to active collaborations with surgeons, scientists and industrial researchers.
