Donald Mavinic of UBC is an accomplished researcher and academic with an international reputation as a leader in environmental engineering. His research expertise includes landfill leachate management, biological waste treatment process, wastewater residuals treatment, nitrification and denitrification process, phosphorus removal and recovery, diffused aeration studies, drinking water pipe corrosion studies and disinfection by-products in drinking water. His published research has established the state of the art in several areas, and the results of his research are being used internationally in the design of full-scale landfill leachate treatment facilities.
