Dr. Peter Nickerson is a leader in transplantation medicine. His specific areas of research have focused on: [a] Non-invasive diagnostic tools to monitor kidney transplants post-transplant for acute and chronic injury -leading the University of Manitoba to be the only Canadian centre acting as a core laboratory for the NIH Clinical Trials of Organ Transplantation Consortia; [b] Improving crossmatch techniques for pre-transplant risk assessment; [c] Health policy to improve access and quality of organ transplantation in Canada. These latter two areas have led to standardization of histocompatibility of lab practice and the development of National Organ Transplant Registries in Canada.
