Lozano, Andres

About Me

Professor and Dan Family Chair in Neurosurgery; RR Tasker Chair in Functional Neurosurgery, Canada Research Chair in Neuroscience, Tier 1, University of Toronto, University Health Network.

An internationally leading neurosurgeon and pioneer in the field of deep brain stimulation surgery, his research has focused on understanding the organization and function of human brain circuits controlling movement, mood and cognition. Dr. Lozano has identified new brain targets that are being used to help patients with neurological and psychiatric disorders. His discoveries have led his group to new surgical procedures to improve brain activity and restore function in patients with Parkinson’s disease and dystonia, and his current work using electrical brain stimulation using fully implanted electrodes and pacemakers, is showing promise in patients with depression and Alzheimer’s disease.
