This in-person workshop is offered at STIBC office in Vancouver.Sharing some common challenges, lìguistic, cultural or otherwise, which are often faced by court interpreters and suggestions on how to better handle such situations. Participants are welcome to interact and share their thoughts.Facilitator: Susan Yao. For more than 20 years, Susan has worked as a certified court interpreter in Cantonese and Mandarin in both civil as well as criminal cases, and a certified translator in Chinese and English, in both directions. She finds doing her job sometimes requires not just language proficiency but also skills to identify and deal with challenging situations which she calls "tricky". She would love to share her experience in the workshop and she looks forward to learning from the participants too.
