In CANDYMAN, the 2021 film directed and co-written by Nia DaCosta, once-promising artist Anthony gets more than he bargained for while searching for creative inspiration in his gentrified Chicago neighborhood.

This "spiritual sequel" to the 1992 horror classic of the same name debuted at number one in its opening weekend, making DaCosta the first Black female director to score that achievement. The film was produced and co-written by Jordan Peele and Win Rosenfeld and is available on Amazon Prime.

Join WIFV Film Club as we discuss the movie in our first hour. Then stick around for a bonus 30-minute discussion of the screenplay. Registrants will receive a link to download the script.

When: Monday, February 20. Film discussion from 7:30 to 8:30 pm ET.
Screenplay discussion from 8:30 to 9 pm ET.

Where: Zoom

Some questions for discussion:
- How does this film incorporate social commentary? Does it enhance or hamper the story?
- What elements do you believe are essential to a horror film and why? How does this film stack up?
- In what ways does this film subvert well-known horror tropes?

The WIFV Film Club is open to all. After registering you'll be emailed the Zoom login information. Then, watch (or rewatch) the film at your own leisure. Come prepared to share your likes, dislikes, and insights. It's like a book club, except instead of reading a book, you get to watch a film!

The WIFV Film Club is another great way to build connections with fellow members of the film community. We meet on the third Monday of each month, from 7:30 – 8:30 pm ET, and hope to start convening in person as soon as possible. Until then, join us via Zoom for a lively, unrecorded discussion. (What happens in Film Club stays in Film Club.)

We'll announce the next film at the end of each meeting.
