Open to anyone 18+.ABOUT NARCAN TRAINING AND HARM REDUCTIONOpioid-involved overdose death has become a major health crisis. Laypeople with no medical training whatsoever can easily, safely, and legally be trained to save the life of someone who is experiencing an opioid overdose. This training is designed for people who might witness an overdose or who just want to help in a difficult world. Attendees of this training session will learn:The current context for the opioid overdose epidemic in ChicagoThe role of opiates in an overdoseHow naloxone worksThe signs and symptoms of an overdose and how to check if someone is overdosingSteps for responding to an overdose and administering naloxoneHow to understand the overdose epidemic in the context of the drug war.The importance of monitoring someone after naloxone has been administeredFentanyl involved overdosesOverdose prevention counselingWhere to get supplies and more informationAttendees will also have the opportunity to sign up to pick up supplies at Chicago Recovery Alliance outreach locations.ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORAlx (he/him) FL: radfunchi, has been engaged in harm reduction and peer support for over 15 years, both here in Chicago and in Providence, RI where he originates. He helps organize the Sunday Service Dance Munch and volunteers for queer climb club and other events in Chicago. He also provides safe sex supplies and harm reduction materials for parties and is available for HIV and Hep C testing both here in Chicago and broader suburban Cook County both privately, and for events.
