CCW Speaker Event - What the heck is BIM? How to leverage BIM in the construction industryWe are delighted to welcome Kate Kirwan, VDC Manager for Turner Construction Company in Canada, to speak to us on Tuesday, January 28th, 2020. Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) have been buzzwords in the AEC industry for years, yet, the Canadian industry as a whole has been slow to adopt these processes. For Turner Construction Company, our use of VDC is driven by the specific needs of each individual project, and our use of BIM makes us better builders, allowing us to deliver innovative services to our owners, consultant teams, and trade partners. We will review case studies and examples of the various processes and technologies Turner Construction utilizes to "build digitally before building in reality," mitigating real-world issues such as coordination complexities, rework and unforeseen circumstances that naturally arise during the course of construction. From small tenant improvement projects through to complex multi-phased core and shell construction, this presentation will summarize one construction company's BIM journey from BIM-free to BIM as often as possible, on all stages of a project.
