A fractured family loses more than they can imagine

Rocking Horse Winner - May 22 & 23

“There was a woman who was beautiful, who started with all the advantages, yet she had no luck.” - D.H. Lawrence

Despite living in a beautiful house with a loving mother, young Paul can see the cracks in his family’s supposedly perfect life. He anxiously observes his mother fretting over bills and bitterly cursing her bad luck. When he discovers that his toy rocking horse enables him to divine the winners of upcoming horse races, he sees a way to save his family from ruin. But what if no amount of money will ever be enough?

Rocking Horse Winner is directed by Alissa Watson and presented at the Millennium Centre. A timely parable for our consumerist culture, this show explores what happens when we base our self-worth on what we spend rather than who we are.
