St. Joseph’s Health Centre is proud to be continuing the great works of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Sault Ste. Marie. When the St. Joseph’s Health Centre acute care site (formerly Sudbury General Hospital) closed, St. Joseph’s Health Centre fulfilled it’s mission by meeting the community’s unmet needs related to post-acute care. We are a Catholic organization guided by our core values of Dignity, Excellence, Service and Integrity with a focus on a culture of caring.
St. Joseph’s Health Centre is the oversees and operates four sites in and around the City of Greater Sudbury:
- St. Joseph’s Villa is a 128-bed long-term care home that opened in 2003 and is located on South Bay Road in the south end of town, across from Laurentian University.
- Villa St. Gabriel’s Villa is a 128-bed long-term care home that opened in 2011 and is nestled in Chelmsford, which is part of the City of Greater Sudbury but is a small, tight-knit community 18 km from downtown Sudbury.
- St. Joseph’s Health Centre also operates two sites of St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre, which is a rehabilitation hospital. The main site is physically attached to St. Joseph’s Villa on South Bay Road and has 64 rehab beds. Since April 2020 an additional 60 beds have been operating at the Clarion hotel in downtown Sudbury to meet the urgent need for transitional and rehab capacity created by the Covid 19 pandemic. These beds are expected to move to a permanent location on Lasalle Blvd in early 2024.
The St. Joseph’s Health Centre supports all four facilities and manages clinical, operational, financial and planning services.
